Abstract
Authors had already reported the results obtained from stomach cancer survey in all provinces of Korea except for Jeju island.
The same survey was carried out in 1976 to find out the patients with stomach cancer among Jeju islanders. All islanders over thirty years of age were recommended to be examined. The examination, however, was limited to 1,132 volunteers. Therefore, the prevalance rate could not be evaluated.
Detection rate and information on factors of etiological importance and gastric symptoms were compared to those of inlanders.
Previous report for inlanders was supplemented by these islander¢¥s results.
1 . Crude detection rate of gastric cancer was 0.62% of all islanders, examined and the rate was lower than 0.72% of inlanders.
2. Nationwide crude detection rate of gastric cancer decreased from 0. 72% to 0. 71% by including the Jeju islanders.
3. It was reconformed that the detection rate of gastric cancer is the highest among farmers.
4. It was expected that detection rate of Jeju islanders will become lower, because the asymptomatic cases islanders were significantely less in number than inlanders.
5. The detection rate and informations on several factors of etiological importance were corrected by the results of the Jeju islanders, although the changes were insignificant.
